Emelie Malm Named Teacher of the Year in Ljungby
August 5, 2024
Emelie Malm, middle school teacher at Thoren Framtid in Ljungby, has been named Teacher of the Year in the municipality.
You’re Teacher of the Year in Ljungby – how does it feel?
– It feels fantastic! I’m very grateful and humbled by this, fully aware that there are many “best teachers in Ljungby” in the municipality, and especially at our school. I’ve had the privilege of learning from the very best.
How does it feel to be nominated by your students?
– It feels amazing to be nominated by my students. That they feel I’m doing a good job for their sake is the most important thing.
What’s your best teaching tip?
– For me, the foundation of good leadership lies in valuing my relationships with my students. The most important thing in my role as a teacher is building relationships where my students feel they matter to me, genuinely. If the students feel safe with each other and with me, we’ve created a strong foundation for learning – and only then, I believe, can they absorb all my nagging about English grammar and the importance of physical activity.
Thousands of students have together nominated 3,399 teachers for the Teacher’s Gala 2024 (Lärargalan), and the jury worked hard to select the Teacher of the Year winners in each municipality across Sweden.
All the municipal winners are also nominated for the Teacher of the Year award in their respective counties. These county winners will then have the chance to win the prestigious Teacher of the Year prize. The Teacher’s Gala will take place on October 14.
