New Executive Director: Yrkesgymnasiet is a Fantastic Concept
August 14, 2024
Janna Krstic, former principal of Yrkesgymnasiet in Gothenburg, is now the new Executive Director for the vocational high schools. – It’s incredibly fun and exciting! I’m grateful for the trust placed in me. We have an exciting time ahead, and I’m glad to have the opportunity to work towards the company’s goals and vision, she says.
Yrkesgymnasiet has been working hard on quality for many years, and it is already at a high level today. Janna Krstic believes that quality is a key factor for continuing to develop and drive the school forward.
– Quality is not just a goal in itself but a fundamental way of working. Our focus will be on distinguishing ourselves from competitors and building strong, long-term relationships with businesses, mentors, teachers, and students. Yrkesgymnasiet should be the obvious choice for all students and staff who want to contribute to a strong future labor market, she explains.
Which of your experiences do you think will be most useful in your new role?
– I truly understand vocational education and apprenticeships, and I want to continue focusing on developing Sweden’s future workforce together with all the principals at Yrkesgymnasiet. My strength lies in my ability to execute, which will be invaluable in supporting principals and units with matters that need attention. Additionally, my ability to communicate in multiple languages could be beneficial when supporting the diverse and global operations of Yrkesgymnasiet, says Janna Krstic.
Previously, she was the Deputy Executive Director at Yrkesgymnasiet and has also worked at the Swedish National Agency for Education (Skolverket) in the teacher certification unit, as well as at ABF Adult Education. She has completed both the vocational teacher program and the principal program and has also worked in the hospitality industry, including as a supervisor at Hilton Hotels in Sydney, Australia.
– I was responsible for managing the operations of four bars and three restaurants. There was a huge demand for quality, and only the best was expected. It was a great learning experience, she says with a laugh.
How can you contribute most in your new role?
– I can bring several valuable qualities, such as accessibility, efficiency, quality, versatility, and humor. I quickly adapt to different tasks and needs within the organization and deliver, which makes me versatile and flexible. I can handle various challenges and situations – but I always do it with a twinkle in my eye, because we work with people, and that requires adaptability and humor. A good laugh extends life, and I always keep that in mind, Janna Krstic adds.
She continues:
– I’m looking forward to new collaborations, but also to continuing to work with the fantastic concept that Yrkesgymnasiet is.
