High Graduation Rate – Even for Students in Need of Support
March 6, 2024
At Yrkesgymnasiet in Malmö, the focus is on ensuring that all students graduate – including those who need additional support. "We focus on customizing support based on each student's needs. It's also crucial to have dedicated staff and resources to provide the necessary support," says Nadja Metovski, the school principal.
To ensure a high graduation rate for all students, Yrkesgymnasiet in Malmö employs concrete tools, such as visual aids and scheduled student reviews, to early identify and support students who need extra accommodations or assistance.
“We tailor all teaching to individual needs and also support students requiring assistance during their APL (workplace-based learning). We do this by collaborating with workplaces to ensure that students receive the support and adjustments they need to perform their tasks in the best possible way. This might include providing extra guidance, adapting the work environment, or offering technological aids,” says Nadja Metovski, adding:
“Our commitment to understanding and supporting students with various needs, including neuropsychiatric conditions, is a distinguishing feature of our school’s educational culture.”
In addition to supporting students with diverse needs, Yrkesgymnasiet in Malmö also strives to challenge and support high-achieving students to encourage and promote their academic growth and performance. The school offers supplementary measures such as advanced courses and project work to further challenge and inspire students to strive for excellence.
“Through differentiated instruction and challenging tasks, tailored to their levels and interests, we aim to create a stimulating environment where these students can thrive and reach even higher levels of knowledge and skills. By focusing on both support and stimulation for all students, regardless of their academic level, we strive to create an inclusive and enriching learning environment where every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential,” says Nadja Metovski.
At Yrkesgymnasiet, nine out of ten students get jobs, almost immediately after graduation. Nadja Metovski notes that this also applies to students who need extra support.
“Students requiring additional support have just as much potential to secure employment after graduation as those who do not need support. We actively work to strengthen our students with various skills and competencies relevant to the job market – and we also support them in applying for and retaining jobs after graduation,” she says.
Yrkesgymnasiet in Malmö also works closely with companies and employers to ensure that students have the skills and abilities that are in demand in the job market, increasing their chances of employment and success in the workforce.
“At Yrkesgymnasiet in Malmö, we are proud to offer an educational environment where every student can grow and reach their full potential,” says Nadja Metovski.
