“Edukatus Alliance should be a company that employees are proud of.”

Edukatus Alliance's chairman Fredrik Geijer believes that his and the board's responsibility is not only towards the owners. "We also have a responsibility towards everyone who relies on us -- preschool children and their guardians, students, and adult learners. They should not only receive the education they are legally entitled to. Edukatus Alliance should strive to be better than that," he said.

He has experience both from the Swedish Armed Forces and from various municipalities, for example as municipal director in Trelleborg and Halmstad. From there he brings a strong conviction that a successful business is based on trust between people and an organizational culture where everyone bears responsibility towards a common goal.

– The importance of trust is something I brought with me from the military. You have to trust that your colleague has your back, literally. It has shaped my view that this is a prerequisite for cooperation between people to work.

The importance of organizational culture for success also became very clear during his years in leadership positions in various municipalities.

– Municipalities are among the most complex organizations to manage. In my experience, it doesn’t really matter what the boxes on an organizational chart look like, the effectiveness and success of the business always boils down to how the culture works and how well everyone understands their contribution to the common goal.

The right organizational culture, together with clear directives, goals and expectations from the board, contributes to the direction of all activities in an organization. Something that everyone in the organization needs to stand behind and has a responsibility to contribute to, says Fredrik Geijer. “To make this possible, you need to have clear communication, where everyone understands what the common goal is and what is expected, from the overall level to the individual level.

– Having a common basis is important. Then, of course, each individual preschool, school or adult education program has its own conditions and must be allowed to decide what is most important there.

Employee well-being and engagement are important issues for Fredrik Geijer:

– Jag vill att Edukatus Alliance ska erbjuda arbetsplatser som medarbetarna är stolta över. Precis som våra elever ska ha en trygg och säker studiemiljö ska våra medarbetare också ha en trygg och säker arbetsmiljö.

Här och nu är Edukatus Alliance primära fokus att höja kvaliteten på de enheter där det finns stora utmaningar. 

– We will strengthen our core business – delivering quality education everywhere. We will be an organization that inspires trust and seriousness.

På lång sikt har Fredrik Geijer betydligt högre ambitioner än så för Edukatus Alliance: Då ska vi vara “state of the art” inom utbildningssektorn, med en så hög nivå att vi skulle kunna etablera oss internationellt.
