The school has been donating baked goods for three years, and according to Helene Franzen, a couple of tons have been distributed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 When the freezer starts to fill up, or if we\u2019ve produced a lot in a short period, I deliver a batch. As time allows, I try to make deliveries once a month, she explains. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Astar has also donated students\u2019 special projects, such as beautifully crafted gingerbread houses during Christmas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2013 The students are very proud and happy that the baked goods go to those in need. In addition to the education, we instill values and the importance of being compassionate to the students. Many students now mention that they donate baked goods instead of throwing them away, says Helene Franzen. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
At Astar\u2019s bakery and pastry program, students learn to master the craft through hands-on work alongside experienced instructors, with most of the training taking place in real bakeries or pastry shops. Once the students have learned the basics, such as handling machines, ingredients, and techniques like chocolate tempering, they move on to more creative tasks. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
