The apprentice students at Yrkesgymnasiet boast a graduation rate of 96.2%, making them national leaders in vocational high school education. Moreover, 9 out of 10 secure jobs shortly after graduation. This article is part of a series on school successes and the efforts behind them. <\/em>

Between April 20 and 21, Maja Jajic from Yrkesgymnasiet Link\u00f6ping competed and won a hairdressing competition in Belgrade, Serbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition featured several categories, with students from across Europe vying for prizes. Maja competed in the \u201cEveryday Hairstyle\u201d category, where participants had 30 minutes to create the best possible hairstyle. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

She impressed the judges and won the award for \u201cMost Original Hairstyle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 “It was an amazing feeling to win,” says Maja.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yrkesgymnasiet was represented at the competition by more than a dozen students from various locations, with five of them, including Maja, traveling from the school in Link\u00f6ping. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Maja is currently in her second year of the Handicraft program in Link\u00f6ping.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She has wanted to be a hairdresser for as long as she can remember, styling her dolls\u2019 hair as a child. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Even though she\u2019s been passionate about hairdressing for years, it\u2019s during the past two years at Yrkesgymnasiet that she\u2019s taken her skills to a new level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2013 “What\u2019s great about Yrkesgymnasiet is that you gain so much experience for the job market. You develop tremendously during the APL,” she says. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Her impressive skills as a hairdresser aren\u2019t just something she feels; her accomplishments speak for themselves.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to her competition win, she has made her mark in other ways as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By the end of her first year, she was already entrusted with her own clients at the salon where she was completing her APL (apprenticeship).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She has also been offered a job at the same salon, even though she still has over a year until graduation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
